Kayla's Stars: A Birthday Memorial Yarnbomb And World Record Attempt
The night before last, I dreamt of my stepsister Kayla. I didn't get to talk to her but she was smiling and laughing with the wind blowing through her long hair. I would catch glimpses of her leaning against a tree or walking through a beautiful forest and she was always smiling and laughing. She was so beautiful inside and out and I really want her birthday to be a beautiful celebration of her life. Even though she is not here anymore, she is in our hearts and memories forever.
I am organizing a Crochet Yarn Bomb Memorial for her birthday, to celebrate her life and the amazing young woman that she grew to be. Her birthday is July 13th and I think it would be wonderful to crochet as many stars as I can, we can, and hang them from one of the trees in my Dad and Stepmom's front yard. I think it would be incredible if we were to crochet so many that it could be a world record too! The most crocheted stars in one tree. I think we can do it, do ya'll want to help me try?

What pattern should you use?
You can use any star pattern that you would like. The star pattern that I use is by Alycia of habitualhomebody.com, CLICK HERE for the pattern. It has a great picture tutorial with it too. Also, I made a video tutorial for the same pattern, CLICK HERE to go to the video.
How to finish the stars:
Weave in the ends and leave 2 dangling strings. Also, so that the stars can hang from the tree without curling up, either crochet 2 stars and sew them together or stiffen them with an elmer's glue mixture. I use 2 tablespoons of elmer's glue per 4 ounces of water. Dip the star completely in the mixture, squeeze out the excess mixture and pin to a box with wax paper taped to the top of the box. Then let the stars dry 24 hours. Or you can weave in the ends and send them to me to stiffen, I don't mind!
How big and what color?
Any size and any color! I'm using Sugar n Cream and Peaches n Creme organic cotton yarn in all kinds of colors with a G hook. Feel free to play around with your favorite yarns or what you have in your yarn stash! I even dyed some yarn!

Updates:
March 2, 2015: Sent in the application to Guinness World Records. It could take up to 12 weeks for a response, fingers crossed!
April 8, 2015: I am very disappointed to announce that Guinness World Records rejected my idea to set a world record for "The Most Crocheted Stars In One Tree". I am happy that I tried though.
BUT I am looking into other possibilities (other world record organizations) and it will still be a VERY special Yarnbomb Memorial for Kayla's birthday on July 13th and we would still love to make it as big as possible with as many stars that we can.
